FRANCA, Brazil – We are honored to announce participation of Speedbird Aero as the latest member of Drone Logistics Ecosystem (DLE). Speedbird is a well-known Drone Delivery company – the largest UAS manufacturer and operator in Latin America and one of the largest in the world – which at the beginning of 2024 opened its new branch in Portugal, also becoming a European UAS manufacturer and operator. The company has developed its own commercial delivery drone platforms such as the BVLOS approved multirotor DLV-2 aircraft designed to carry 3-12 kg of payload in a flight-range of 20-40 km and the eVTOL DLV-4 aircraft < 5 kg payload in a flight-range of 100 km.
Speedbird Aero was created in 2018 due to a market need identified by co-founders Manoel Coelho and Samuel Salomão who worked at a large telemedicine company in the USA as Chief Revenue Officer and Lead Software Engineer, respectively. They often carried out a remote diagnosis in an effective way, but to meet the subsequent demand – e.g. For collecting samples for laboratory analysis or delivering medicines to complete the medical care – they were faced with the problem of not having optimized solutions available; therefore, they decided to develop platforms that would meet this need.
Today, Speedbird relies on the versatile and reliable design of its aircraft – capable of transporting different biological materials, industrial items, food & beverage packaging, and various e-commerce orders – as well as on the intelligence of its software, which was designed to accommodate the modular integration of other relevant payloads such as winches & sensors for measuring water quality & methane gas emissions in real time, and the integration of other modes of transport, i.e., commercial aviation, waterway, rail & road in the monitored fleet to offer its customers end-to-end logistics solutions and to scale your business. Additionally, we have established important partnerships with global companies like Skyports, Dronery, UAVLatam and Variable Pitch, however we know that to further scale our operations we have some challenges to be overcome.
"How can collaboration in the Drone Logistics ecosystem help you to accelerate your business development and fundraising effort? “Speedbird already has its maturity as a UAS manufacturer & operator demonstrated with different certifications and several hours of successful operation in different markets, and we believe that this collaboration in the Drone Logistics ecosystem will open up even more markets and accelerate the solution of the challenges mentioned above, thus, demonstrating to investors that this is a profitable and scalable market and attracting more capital to this market, for companies like Speedbird Aero”, said Mrs. Veruska Mazza Rodrigues Dias Chief Strategy Officer of Speedbird Aero.
Speedbird already has a global footprint with BVLOS operations on 3 continents and a Category B UN 3373 Certificate that allows us to transport biological substances. There is no shortage of demand, we receive countless orders from different customers, different industries, globally. For us, the biggest challenge is the lack of regulatory harmonization at a global level added to the gap in adopting criteria of proportionality in the aircraft certification and simultaneous multiple validation of different operating environments by similarity in the operational authorization process – scenario we face in some of the main markets where we plan to operate on an escalated basis.

Drone Logistics Ecosystem (DLE) is a global/virtual network of Companies, Universities, the Public/Governments, and Investors operating in the drone logistics industry. The aim of the DLE is to bring together stakeholders to collaborate to stimulate standardization in this rapidly emerging industry. Hence, accelerating cross-border marketing and commercialization of products and services of its members. Since most of the companies in this industry are early-stage start-ups with limited access to funding, manpower and expertise, DLE is the ideal platform for companies to share their expertise to co-develop products and services and/or acquire necessary cross-border market access in partnership with other members.
In the past 2 years, DLE has expanded to include 60 organizations, consisting of 56 companies, 2 universities and world's largest drone association, Japan UAS Industrial Development Association, across 24 different countries. In a short period of time, we have been able to generate several international proof-of-concept projects with a few commercialization prospects in the pipeline. The pandemic has restricted our movement and DLE has been a great tool for our members to streamline communication and product development. We are in the process to create a commercialization model to help our members reach the market faster in partnership with other members.
