UK based start-up what3words joins Drone Logistics Ecosystem

13 JUNE 2022 LONDON, UK- Drone Logistics Ecosystem has announced today that an innovative location technology company, what3words, is joining their network or members working to make drone deliveries a reality. Drone Logistics Ecosystem (DLE) is a free, global multidisciplinary “quadruple helix” network, that works together to stimulate innovations, collaborations, and standardisations in the drone logistics industry. What3words is revolutionising the way we communicate location. It has divided the world into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares and has given each square a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. For example, ///pool.follow.lofts takes you to a precise 3-metre square in an idyllic spot in the middle of Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. Businesses and individuals can use the system to find, share and navigate to precise locations using three simple words. The system is available in 51 languages, including Tamil, Malay, English and Mandarin Chinese. The aim of the Drone Logistics Ecosystem is to bring together stakeholders in the drone logistics industry under one roof to support the commercialisation and marketing of products of Drone Logistics members. Since the industry at its inception, most of the companies are early-stage start-ups with limited access to funding, manpower and expertise, making us an ideal platform for companies to lend their expertise for joint development of products, consulting, or simply as sub-contractors, or for any other format of cross-disciplinary/border collaboration. Florian Reinhardt, Senior Partnerships Lead at what3words, said “what3words innovative location technology is set to play a pivotal role in facilitating the communication of locations between consumers and drones. We’re excited to be joining DLE to collaborate with members on cutting edge consumer-facing trials, and to cross-pollinate ideas to provide innovative ways of making drone deliveries a reality”.

About Drone Logistics Ecosystem™

DLE is a global/virtual network of Companies, Universities, the Public/Governments, and Investors operating in the drone logistics industry. The aim of the DLE is to bring together stakeholders to collaborate to stimulate standardization in this rapidly emerging industry. Hence, accelerating cross-border marketing and commercialization of products and services of its members. Since most of the companies in this industry are early-stage start-ups with limited access to funding, manpower and expertise, DLE is the ideal platform for companies to share their expertise to co-develop products and services and/or acquire necessary cross-border market access in partnership with other members.

In one year, DLE has expanded to include 42 organisations, consisting of 39 companies, 2 universities and world's largest drone association, Japan UAS Industrial Development Association, across 21 different countries. In a short period of time, we have been able to generate several international proof-of-concept projects with a few commercialisation prospects in the pipeline. The pandemic has restricted our movement and DLE has been a great tool for our members to streamline communication and product development. We are in the process to create a commercialisation model to help our members reach the market faster in partnership with other members.

DELTA AEROSPACE was established over a decade ago to look at aerospace opportunities and the development of Aerospace business in Malaysia and the Region. In 2019 response to a “general enquiry”, we started down the path to where we are today, the only seaplane Distribution Organization in Asia Pacific and by 2023 the only 8 seat Seaplane Manufacturer in Asia. Achieving this status is our initial goal, and all indication shows that it is developing into a great business and opportunity to effectively develop another new branch of General Aviation Transport. But, with the developing step-change in aviation and the direction drone technology, E-mobility technology, and drive of our own markets to achieve a much more efficient and effective transport the environment is taking us, our goal is to achieve an autonomous fleet of seaplane freight vehicles by 2026. As an organisation, we are convinced that this is achievable in that timeframe via the utilization of existing airframes and known methods of operation and manufacture and not via the clean sheet design the route that not only takes a long time to see those completed vehicles become real but also require comprehensive and long duration certification programs for those vehicles. We already have the aircraft, alternative technology propulsion systems are already available for our manned aircraft updates and the flight control, flight management and communication systems enabling “removal of the pilot and fully autonomous operation is also available. Ours is a program of integration of the new and the traditional providing both comfort to us in terms of possible development timeframe and comfort to those certifying authorities eventually approving our 1.5 Ton amphibious Drones and their operation crossing the Pacific is part of a complete logistic network. Our goal being achieved through smart partnership and the combination of the best solutions.
